Security company licensing in Virginia

Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, Division of Licensure and Regulatory Services licenses security companies here, but we do not yet carry its roster, so we cannot tell you who is on it.

Virginia replaced its old licence lookup in December 2024 and the current tool does substring matching on business name, returning licence number, DCJS identifier, status and both issue and expiry dates. Our two independent probes disagreed on whether it can be swept for the whole register, so the coverage we can reach is unsettled.

Until then, verify a company with the regulator directly, and treat any license number a company gives you as a claim we have not checked.

There is a second license, and in Virginia it may be the only one that exists: the guard’s own.
