How to become a security guard in Wyoming
Wyoming has no statewide license or registration for security guards or security companies. Cities may license businesses (W.S. 15-1-103); Cheyenne licenses detective, patrol and guard service businesses under Municipal Code ch. 5.48. Elsewhere, employers set the hiring requirements.

Steps to get started
- Meet your employer's hiring requirements (the employer sets age, training and record-check rules).
- Ask the city clerk where you'll work whether a city license applies (Cheyenne licenses guard businesses under ch. 5.48).
- If working armed, complete the firearms training and qualification your employer and client require, and follow W.S. 6-8-104.
Working armed in Wyoming
No state armed guard license or firearms qualification. Concealed carry needs no permit for U.S. residents 18+ who meet most permit requirements (W.S. 6-8-104); employers and clients set armed-post training. In Cheyenne, drawing or firing a firearm on duty is unlawful except to protect yourself from great bodily harm (Cheyenne Municipal Code 5.48.110).
