How to become a security guard in Oklahoma

Oklahoma licenses guards through CLEET. Unarmed guards complete the 40-hour Security Guard Training Course (Phase 1 "Basic" + Phase 2 "Security Guard", 20 hours each) and pass the state exams; armed guards add Phase 4 firearms.

Steps to get started

Complete the 40-hour Security Guard Training Course (Phase 1 + Phase 2) at a CLEET-accredited school.
Pass the state examinations for both phases.
Complete fingerprinting through IdentoGO within 30 days of applying, and pay the $50 fee ($100 armed).
Renew every 3 years with 8 hours of continuing education and employment verification.

Unarmed Security Guard License: Training may be waived with one year of licensed guard/investigator/law-enforcement experience in the prior three years.

Working armed in Oklahoma

Armed guards (21+) complete Phases 1, 2, and 4 (firearms instruction and qualification), pass a firearms exam, and complete a psychological evaluation.

Armed Security Guard License: Phases 1, 2, and 4 (firearms) plus a psychological evaluation and firearms exam. Must be 21+.
